Veivalg Trophy to Maren and Mathias

After Saturday’s Normal Distance, the winners of W16 and M16 were each presented with a “Veivalg Trophy”, a prize from Sportmedia.

- I got this last year too, as far as I remember, says Mathias Nalum Olsen from Larvik OK with the enormous trophy in his hands. Now trophy number two will take its place in his room at home. He found the race good fun, but also technically demanding.

-So it was extra fun to do well today. Usually I’m best in terrain where the most important thing is to run fast, says Mathias. He has no huge plans for the National Youth Competition later in the season, but says, like most serious top athletes:

- I’ll do as well as possible.

Cool trophy

Maren Janson Haverstad is, however, more on the offensive when asked about her goals for the year’s most important competition:

- I’ve been number five twice, so now my goal is to be amongst the top three. But of course, I hope to win, she says.

Saturdays’s race went well, except for a bit of trouble with the direction to the 10th control, and she therefore secured the Veivalg Trophy.

-What do you think of this enormous trophy?

- Well, it is pretty cool, laughs Maren.

Up to the National Youth Competition there’s a full programme of orienteering. A gathering at Savalen organised by the Norwegian Orienteering Federation, a ski-orienteering meet at Sognefjellet, Sørlandsgaloppen and the Swedish “5-days” is the recipe for achieving super form by August.
